Current studies suggest that mangroves and coastal wetlands cancapture carbon from the atmosphere at tentimes the annual rate ofmature tropical forests1. Indonesia has the largest mangroveforest area in the world2, this vast area represents 20 percent ofthe world’s mangroves3. The thriving presence of healthy mangrovesin littoral areas iscrucial as it enhances the resilience ofcoastal communities against climate change and reduces the impactof natural disasters such as tsunamis, storms, and sea waves.
“YKAN has actively collaborated with the Government of Indonesiato develop an integrated strategy for mangrove restoration, whichhas been implemented in provinces such as DKI Jakarta, CentralJava, Riau, South Sumatra and East Kalimantan,” shared PricillaChristin, Communications Director at YKAN. She expressed hergratitude for FedEx continued support for YKAN’s mangroveconservation efforts since 2022.
